Nariman House, Jewish center in Colaba, India
Nariman House is a five-story building standing 17 meters (56 feet) tall in south Mumbai, containing a synagogue, educational facilities, and visitor accommodations. Each floor serves a different purpose, with public areas on lower levels and private spaces above.
During the 2008 Mumbai attacks, terrorists targeted the house, resulting in six deaths including Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife Rivka. Following the assault, the center was renovated and reopened to the public in 2014.
The building functions as a Chabad center, providing religious services, education, and support for Jewish travelers and local community members.
The facility includes a kosher restaurant serving Israeli and Indian dishes, with security checks required for all visitors. Controls at the entrance are thorough, so plan extra time for arrival.
Bullet marks and grenade damage remain preserved within the building as testimony to the events. A memorial on the roof honors the 176 victims of the Mumbai attacks.
