Maharajbagh zoo

Maharajbagh Zoo in Nagpur houses tigers, leopards, bears, monkeys, birds, and deer spread across its central location grounds. The property also includes an aquarium section and a botanical garden with multiple plant species throughout the area.

Rulers from the Bhonsle dynasty established this zoo in 1894 as a zoological collection for the region. The site was subsequently developed and maintained under India's Central Zoo Authority oversight.

The botanical garden section displays medicinal plants and ornamental shrubs that reflect traditional Indian knowledge about healing herbs. Visitors can see how these plants are arranged and labeled throughout the grounds as they walk.

The zoo grounds are easy to navigate with marked pathways connecting the different animal enclosures and garden sections. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water, as parts of the terrain are exposed to open sun throughout the day.

The zoo maintains a notable collection of native bird species such as parrots, cockatoos, and hornbills that inhabit designated garden zones. These birds display natural behaviors that offer visitors insight into the region's local bird life.
