Dumka Block is an administrative division in Jharkhand comprising around 256 villages spread across the Dumka-Godda Uplands region. The area is bordered by several neighboring blocks including Ramgarh, Kathikund, and Shikaripara.
The block was established as an administrative unit following India's independence to implement decentralized governance reforms. This structure became the foundation for local administration and community development in the region.
Santali speakers in this region maintain their traditional customs and festivals alongside communities speaking Hindi and Urdu. The coexistence of these languages shapes local celebrations and daily social practices throughout the villages.
The block operates around 210 primary schools, 5 health centers, and 16 health sub-centers serving the population. About 85 villages have electrical power supply for basic needs, while other areas rely on limited services.
This area sits on an elevated plateau at around 137 meters above sea level with a varied landscape structure. Residents grow rice, maize, and wheat using traditional agricultural methods suited to the local terrain.
