Residence of Sister Nivedita

The Residence of Sister Nivedita is located on Bosepara Lane and features restored murals in the Thakur Dalan prayer hall. The building contains multiple exhibition spaces across two floors that display artifacts and materials related to Sister Nivedita's life and work.

Sister Nivedita established her first girls school at this location in the early 1900s following a ceremonial blessing from Sri Sarada Devi. The building was later preserved as a memorial to her educational work and her contributions to India's independence movement.

The residence displays the original design of India's first national flag, created by students of Sister Nivedita during the independence movement. Visitors can see how this flag is presented in the exhibition spaces and understand its meaning for India's struggle for freedom.

The Ramakrishna Sarada Mission manages the property and provides guided tours through the exhibition halls. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes as there are stairs between different exhibition areas.

During the plague outbreak of 1899, the building served as a medical relief center for local residents under Sister Nivedita's direction. This shows how the house functioned beyond its role as a school and became a place of social action.
