Adamekhütte, Mountain hut in Gosau, Austria
Adamekhütte is a mountain shelter located at 2196 meters (7,205 feet) beneath the Gosaugletscher glacier in the Austrian Alps. The facility overlooks the Gosauseen lakes and provides lodging for hikers and mountaineers traversing this region of the high mountains.
The Austrian Alpine Club founded this shelter in 1908 and named it after former president Karl Ritter von Adamek. It replaced an earlier protection hut called Grobgesteinhütte that once served mountaineers in the same location.
The mountain hut maintains Alpine traditions by serving local Austrian dishes in its dining room while providing shelter for hikers crossing the northern Alps.
The approach from Vorderer Gosausee lake follows a hiking trail of about 11 kilometers that takes 3 to 4 hours to complete with roughly 1500 meters of elevation gain. The shelter opens only during summer months from June through September and advance booking is recommended to ensure a place to sleep.
The shelter accommodates around 100 people with different lodging arrangements from private rooms to dormitory-style sleeping areas. This substantial capacity makes it a key stopping point for larger groups of mountaineers moving through the glacier region.
