The Kaltenberghütte is a mountain shelter at 2089 meters (6853 ft) elevation, situated where the Arlberg, Klostertal, and Verwall regions meet. The facility offers private rooms and dormitories with roughly 70 beds, plus a year-round winter room for additional guests.
The building opened in 1928 and has since served as a base for climbers exploring the Vorarlberg mountains. It has continuously operated over the decades, supporting mountaineers on their alpine journeys.
The hut prepares regional dishes using local cooking traditions, including cheese dumplings and apple-apricot strudel for mountain climbers. These meals reflect the food culture of the Vorarlberg Alps.
The shelter is open to visitors from June through September, offering the most amenities and meals during this period. In winter, only certain areas and services are available, so plan according to the season.
The shelter earned environmental certification in 2019 for its sustainable practices in alpine operations. This recognition reflects its commitment to responsible environmental management in the mountain region.
