Surakhany raion

Surakhany raion is a district in Baku combining residential areas with older structures, where different land uses exist side by side. The area includes schools, shops, transportation hubs, and green spaces that shape daily life.

The district took its modern form in the early 20th century as Baku expanded rapidly. It experienced various administrative changes and was part of a larger administrative area for much of this period.

The district is easily accessible by bus and minibus with stops at various locations throughout the area. Visitors should note that pedestrian paths can be uneven and the neighborhood is walkable for exploration.

Natural gas sources beneath the district create real flames that are sometimes still visible. This geological feature is rare and has drawn people to the location for centuries.
