Nizami Park, Public garden in Xətai district, Baku, Azerbaijan.
Nizami Park is a public green space in the Xətai district of Baku, featuring two fountain complexes, an artificial lake, and walking paths. The grounds also include sports facilities and seating areas, making it a place used by people of all ages.
The site was set up in 1882 as Luna Park, near Villa Petrolea, a residential area built by the Nobel brothers for their workers in an industrial part of the city. Over the following decades, it gradually changed from a private workers' retreat into a public park open to everyone.
The park takes its name from Nizami Ganjavi, a poet from the 12th century whose works are still read and celebrated in Azerbaijan. Visitors will often notice families and older residents gathering near the fountains, treating the space as a natural meeting point in the neighborhood.
The park sits close to Khatai Metro Station, which makes it easy to reach without a car. Morning and late afternoon tend to be quieter times to walk through, while weekends draw larger groups of visitors.
A small amphitheater and a summer cinema built in 1938 still stand in the park, even if they are no longer in regular use. They point to a time when this was one of the few places in the city where people could watch films or attend open-air performances.
