Church of the Saviour, Lutheran church in Nəsimi district, Baku, Azerbaijan.
The Church of the Saviour is a Lutheran place of worship in central Baku featuring a long rectangular hall, deep sanctuary, and tall tower with Gothic arches and ornate doorways. The building displays these vertical lines and decorative details throughout its structure.
German architect Adolf Eichler designed this place of worship, which was built from 1896 to 1899 with donations from the local community. Its completion near the end of the 19th century marked an important moment for the city's growing religious diversity.
The building now functions as a concert hall where organ music and cultural events take place. It remains a sacred space for the local Lutheran community who gather here.
The building sits near 28 May Street in the heart of Baku and is easily reached on foot. Extensive restoration work between 2001 and 2010 improved visitor access and preserved the structure for people to experience.
A gilded cross weighing 213 kilograms was installed on top of the church tower in 1898. This striking symbol was a notable mark of craftsmanship and devotion by those who built it.
