Baku Museum of Modern Art, Art museum in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The Baku Museum of Modern Art is an art museum in Azerbaijan housing over 800 works displayed along open passages and angled walls. The spatial arrangement creates multiple viewing angles for each piece on view.
The institution opened in 2009 under the initiative of First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. This founding created a new venue for displaying modern and contemporary artworks in the city.
The collection displays works by Azerbaijani artists from the decades after World War II alongside international figures like Picasso and Dali. Visitors can observe how local and Western artistic movements are shown side by side here.
The building is well organized with separate areas for children's art classes, a video screening room, and a library for browsing. There is also a café and restaurant for breaks, plus a well-stocked art bookstore.
The building uses an unusual design that eliminates traditional hallways in favor of metallic structures and white surfaces. This forward-looking layout connects different exhibition areas in an unexpected way.
