Le Cartier Apartments, International Style skyscraper in Golden Square Mile, Montreal, Canada
Le Cartier Apartments is a residential tower in the International Style located at the corner of Peel Street and Sherbrooke Street West. The steel-frame building contains 188 apartments of various sizes, served by four elevators and supported by four basement levels.
When completed in 1964, this building was the tallest apartment building in Canada and across the Commonwealth. Architects Menkes and Webb designed it using International Style principles that reflected post-war modernism.
This residential tower is located in the Golden Square Mile, a neighborhood that shows Montreal's shift from 19th-century mansion estates to modern urban living. Residents and visitors experience how historic elements and contemporary city life coexist here.
