Ross House Museum, Historical house museum in Point Douglas, Winnipeg, Canada.
The Ross House Museum is a Red River frame building from the 1800s in Point Douglas showing how early Manitoba residents lived. Its interior is furnished with household items from the 1850s and offers insight into the conditions early settlers experienced.
William Ross established Western Canada's first post office here in 1855 and was appointed as the first postmaster by the Council of Assiniboia. This role made the building a key location in the region's early communication history.
The house shows how early settlers lived and worked in Manitoba, with furniture and objects from daily life in the 1800s. Visitors see personal rooms that reveal how different everyday life was back then.
The museum is located in Joe Zuken Heritage Park and opens to visitors during the warmer months. Guided tours show the restored rooms and explain what everyday life was like in that period.
The building was moved twice, which shows how much the community valued keeping it standing. First in 1947 to a new location, and then in 1984 to its current place in the heritage park.
