Horse Palace, Exhibition hall and stable in Exhibition Place, Toronto, Canada.
The Horse Palace is an exhibition hall and stable in Exhibition Place featuring yellow brick walls with limestone details and a cathedral glass ceiling above the main practice ring. The two-floor facility contains stalls for horses and livestock while also housing the Toronto Police Mounted Unit and operating a private riding academy.
The building was constructed in 1931 as a dedicated structure for equestrian events and exhibition purposes. During World War II, it briefly served as military barracks where soldiers were housed before their deployment overseas.
The structure displays horse motifs throughout its design, with full-body carvings in different poses over the west entrance doors and head reliefs above main entrances. These decorative elements reflect the building's original purpose and remain visible to visitors walking through the space.
The building is located within Exhibition Place and can be reached on foot with its distinctive yellow brick exterior serving as a clear landmark. Visiting during quieter times outside of events allows you to explore both interior and exterior spaces at a comfortable pace.
The roof received a significant solar panel installation in 2006 that was among the largest of its time in Canada. This photovoltaic system demonstrates early energy innovation at the heritage site.
