Fort York National Historic Site

Fort York National Historic Site spans 43 acres, featuring original artillery fortifications and military buildings constructed during the early nineteenth century.

The fort was established in 1793 by Lieutenant Governor John Graves Simcoe and served as a defense stronghold during the War of 1812 against American forces.

The site presents exhibits and artifacts in a 2,900-square-foot gallery, showcasing military traditions through regular reenactments by actors in period uniforms.

Visitors can access the fort Wednesday through Sunday from 11 AM to 4 PM, with guided tours departing every hour until one hour before closing time.

The fort contains a specialized vault for displaying light-sensitive artifacts and features an immersive multimedia experience detailing the Battle of York events.
