Westview Park, Municipal park in North District, Winnipeg, Canada.
Westview Park is a large green space in Winnipeg's North District with a distinctive hill that rises noticeably above the surrounding flat landscape. The site features walking trails, viewpoints overlooking downtown, and planted areas of native grasses.
The site originally functioned as a municipal dump starting in the 1880s and continued accepting waste through 1948. After the landfill closed, the land was gradually transformed into a public park.
Local residents participate in winter activities such as tobogganing and skiing, while summer brings opportunities for hiking and off-leash dog walking.
The main entrance provides easy access to the park's trails and viewpoints. The warmer months offer the best conditions for walking, as the paths are easiest to navigate and the views of downtown are clearest.
The hill features large wooden letters spelling Garbage, a reference to the site's former use as a landfill. The letters were permanently installed in 2018 after visitors had previously placed a temporary sign that attracted significant public interest.
