Ukrainian Labour Temple, Cultural center and national historic site in North End, Winnipeg, Canada
The Ukrainian Labour Temple is a neoclassical building located on Pritchard Avenue with limestone banding, pilasters, and oversized keystones across its exterior. Inside, it housed a printing shop, office spaces, and served as headquarters for workers' organizations.
This temple was built between 1918 and 1919 during a period of major social change and labor activism. It quickly became headquarters for national Ukrainian organizations and reflects the history of immigration and workers' movements in Canada.
This was a central gathering place for Ukrainian communities, hosting performances, theater groups, and folk dance events throughout the decades. People came here to celebrate and maintain their cultural traditions together.
The building is located in North End Winnipeg and is easily accessible on foot from nearby areas. Visitors should allow time to observe the architectural details on the exterior and any historical markers around the site.
Above the entrance, two clasping hands reach across a globe in a striking sculptural detail. The original inscription Workers of the World Unite is carved into the architectural design and conveys the building's commitment to workers and solidarity.
