Cholfirst

Cholfirst is a mountain summit near Flurlingen in the Zurich region, rising to 570 meters above sea level. A prominent radio tower stands on the peak, serving as a visible landmark across the surrounding countryside.

The peak first hosted a television transmitter in the early 1970s that operated for three years. In 1973, a new and significantly taller radio tower was built to improve broadcasting capabilities across the region.

The radio tower broadcasts multiple Swiss programs, including DRS 1, DRS 2, and DRS 3, connecting local communities through various media frequencies.

A public observation platform sits within the radio tower and is reached by stairs, giving visitors an overlook of the surrounding land. The best time to visit is on clear days when visibility is particularly good.

The radio tower was funded through substantial investment that allowed the project to provide both transmission capacity and public access. This made it an uncommon combination of technical infrastructure and visitor attraction in Switzerland.
