Veia Traversina is a footbridge spanning a deep gorge in the Domleschg valley, connecting the villages of Zillis-Reischen and Sils. The structure uses steel and timber elements arranged in different levels to meet the hiking trails at various heights across the slope.
This bridge was built in 2005 to replace an earlier structure destroyed by a falling boulder from the mountainside. The new construction restored a safe passage for hikers in this remote Alpine region.
The bridge is named after a mountain pass and serves as a practical link for local hikers moving between neighboring villages in the Domleschg valley.
The bridge is best reached via hiking trails from either village and requires no entrance fee or ticket. Good weather and sturdy hiking shoes are advisable due to the steep sections and exposed crossing.
Assembly of the bridge required helicopters and rope specialists to piece together components suspended over the gorge. This demanding construction method reflects the extreme difficulty of building any structure at this remote cliff location.
