Territet–Glion funicular railway, Funicular railway between Territet and Glion in Montreux, Switzerland.
This funicular runs between Territet on the lakeshore and Glion on the hillside, with two parallel tracks allowing cars to travel in opposite directions simultaneously. The route climbs steep grades across a relatively short distance.
Construction began in 1883, and the original system used water to balance the ascending and descending cars. Electricity took over in 1975, bringing the technology into the modern age.
The railway links the lakeshore community with the hillside above, serving as a daily route for students and residents traveling between these two worlds. It shapes how people move through this part of the Swiss Riviera.
The ride is comfortable whether you stand or sit, and the cars are easy to board at either station. During heavy snow or storms, service may be delayed or suspended.
A major renovation in 2009 integrated this line into the region's coordinated transport network, making it easier to plan trips across different methods of travel. Today it works seamlessly with buses, trains, and boats in the area.
