Sperrstelle Beatenbucht, Military fortification in Sigriswil, Switzerland
Sperrstelle Beatenbucht is a military fortification in Sigriswil, Switzerland, built into a rock cavern. The bunker contains a 15-meter tunnel and weapon observation slots designed for defense.
The installation was completed in January 1941 during World War II to defend Switzerland's mountain passes. It was transferred to the local defense force of Merligen in April 1942.
The position reflects how Switzerland organized its defense strategy in the mountains. Visitors can observe how such installations fit into the broader system of protecting the nation's natural boundaries.
Visitors can explore the interior through guided tours on scheduled dates. Wear warm clothing since the rock cavern stays cool year-round.
The bunker originally had a 4.7 cm infantry cannon that was later replaced with a 9 cm anti-tank gun. This upgraded weapon could fire 8 to 10 rounds per minute and offered much better protection against tanks.
