Thunersee–Beatenberg railway

The Thunersee-Beatenberg railway extends 1,689 meters across an elevation change of 556 meters, connecting Beatenbucht on Lake Thun to Beatenberg village.

Established in 1889, the funicular initially operated with water counterbalancing before converting to electric power in 1911 for continuous year-round service.

The railway cars, named Niederhorn and Beatenberg, transport visitors through the Swiss landscape while providing access to regional mountain activities.

The funicular operates two 90-passenger cars at speeds of 3.2 or 4.8 meters per second, completing journeys in 10 or 6 minutes respectively.

The railway system includes a single track with a central passing loop and maintains an average gradient of 34.6 percent, reaching maximum inclines of 40 percent.
