Douala III, Administrative district in Douala, Cameroon
Douala III is an administrative district in the southeastern part of Douala comprising residential and industrial areas along the Dibamba River. It is organized into 19 administrative sectors with numerous villages and neighborhoods that form a major residential and commercial hub for the region.
Douala III was established in 1987 to improve local governance within the rapidly expanding Douala metropolitan area. Creating this separate administrative unit allowed better coordination of public services and infrastructure development in the southeastern urban zones.
The district contains 105 neighborhoods spread across 19 villages, incorporating both Bakoko and Bassa traditional chiefdoms with their respective administrative structures.
Visitors can explore different administrative sectors and neighborhoods, each with their own local markets and services. Key public facilities are spread across multiple administrative centers, so planning ahead helps when visiting different areas.
The Japoma Sports Complex within the district features a large stadium and hosts major national sporting events regularly. This sports venue makes the area a gathering point for the entire region whenever competitions take place.
