Lingxiao Pagoda

Lingxiao Pagoda is a nine-story brick structure with an octagonal shape rising 42 meters above ground. Each level features wooden roof eaves that create its distinctive profile when viewed from a distance.

The pagoda was constructed in 1045 during the Song Dynasty, replacing an earlier wooden structure from 860. Subsequent dynasties carried out renovations that preserved the building through the centuries.

The pagoda serves as a focal point for Buddhist devotion, where visitors can observe the sophisticated building methods of medieval Chinese craftsmen. The interior column demonstrates how builders integrated structural strength with spiritual symbolism.

The interior wooden staircase allows visitors to climb up to the fourth floor and examine the construction from close range. The building has withstood an earthquake in 1966 and remains in stable condition for public access.

The structure displays a striking mix of materials, with the lower four floors built from solid brickwork while the upper sections are constructed entirely from wood. This combination of different building techniques makes the pagoda a remarkable example of Song Dynasty engineering.
