Kaiyuan Temple, Buddhist temple in Zhengding, China

The Kaiyuan Temple complex features a bell tower and the Xumi Pagoda, a nine-eaved structure with carved stone doorways and detailed figures at its base.

Founded in 540 CE, the temple endured until 1966 when destruction occurred during the Cultural Revolution, leaving only selected structures standing to present times.

The temple grounds contain China's largest stone bixi, a mythical tortoise-like dragon sculpture excavated in 2000 from a Zhengding street.

The temple sits on Yanzhao Nandajie Street in Zhengding, allowing visitors to examine the remaining architectural elements of this national heritage site.

The base of the Xumi Pagoda, dating from 636 CE, contains an accessible shrine while the upper levels remain closed to public access.
