安国药王庙

The Medicine Deity Temple in Anguo is a large complex with 17 buildings arranged across four courtyards, connecting yards, and a central plaza. The structures showcase traditional Chinese construction techniques and house multiple exhibition spaces alongside areas designed for ceremonial purposes.

The temple originated during the Eastern Han Dynasty and underwent major expansion in the Northern Song Dynasty to honor the healer Pi Tong. This expansion established it as China's most significant memorial to ancient medical practitioners and their contributions.

This site honors the memory of accomplished healers from different eras and demonstrates how medicine held deep meaning in Chinese society. The statues and inscriptions within tell the story of practitioners whose knowledge shaped healing traditions across centuries.

Visitors should allow time to explore the various courtyards and buildings, as the site is expansive with numerous architectural details to observe. Sturdy footwear is recommended since walking across the grounds involves navigating uneven surfaces.

Two cast iron flagpoles stand at the entrance bearing an inscription of the temple's name written by a respected Qing Dynasty scholar. These details reveal the care taken in designing this site as a place of lasting importance.
