Hong Kong Museum of the War of Resistance and Coastal Defence

The Hong Kong Museum of the War of Resistance and Coastal Defence occupies a former British fort on a hill overlooking the Lei Yue Mun channel. The site contains old gun positions, fortifications, and exhibition rooms with weapons and military objects from different periods.

The British built this fort in the 1880s to guard the harbor entrance. The Japanese army captured it during World War II, shifting control of the city.

The museum displays how people protected these shores over centuries and what the harbor meant to the city's life. The exhibitions show the daily work of soldiers and the changes that trade and conflict brought to this place.

The best way there is to walk from Shau Kei Wan MTR Station, a journey of about 15 minutes with clear signs. Wear comfortable shoes since the site is hilly with several staircases to explore the fort.

The site preserves several original guns, including a heavy model from the 1870s that shows how defense worked then. These weapons help visitors understand the power of the earlier fortification.
