Hanking Center, Contemporary skyscraper in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, China
Hanking Center is a 358.9-metre skyscraper in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, completed in 2018 to a design by Morphosis. Its main shaft is a flat curtain wall of pale blue-grey reflective glass, with a narrow strip of lighter stone running up the left edge to the flat roof. Large applied characters on the upper facade read "I" above a red heart and "SZ" below. A smaller angled glass section meets the tower at lower right.
The design process began in 2012 when Morphosis Architects took on the project, with the core and shell construction completed by 2018. This development coincided with Shenzhen's expansion as a major business district.
The facade carries the applied characters "I", a red heart and "SZ", a sign residents read as affection for Shenzhen. In March 2021 Shenzhen International and Shenzhen Expressway bought floors 35 to 48, about 23,796 square metres of office space, for 1.558 billion yuan.
The tower stands in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, and was completed in 2018. Its detached service core is linked to the main shaft by glass skybridges and steel braces, so the lift and stair routes sit outside the office floors. Look up from street level to see the gap between core and tower.
The core stands approximately 35 feet (11 meters) separate from the main tower, creating an unusual building profile that changes dramatically depending on viewing angle. This unconventional separation allows for interior views and circulation patterns that differ significantly from typical high-rise designs.
