Zoologischer Garten Neunkirchen

The Neunkirchen Zoo spreads across a large area near the city with natural habitats for many animal species. The grounds contain lions, elephants, primates, and numerous other animals housed in spacious, naturalistic enclosures.

The zoo started in 1926 when an aquarium and terrarium club founded it, beginning with fish ponds and gradually adding larger animals. By the 1930s, the first big cats arrived, marking the start of expansion into a proper zoological collection.

The falconry center features eagles, falcons, and owls performing daily flight demonstrations that visitors can watch up close. These shows give people a chance to see how these birds hunt and move through the air.

The zoo is easy to walk through using clearly marked paths, with rest areas placed throughout where you can sit between animal exhibits. Wear comfortable shoes since the terrain is rolling and exploring the full site takes several hours.

The elephant facility, finished in 2004, is one of the largest in Germany and includes a temple-like structure designed especially for Asian elephants. This unusual architecture makes it one of the most striking areas when walking through the zoo.
