Rietberg

The town stretches along the Ems River, featuring 60 restored half-timbered houses and numerous traditional gabled structures throughout its central district.

The County of Rietberg maintained independence from 1237 to 1807, operating with its own currency, militia, and legal system within the Holy Roman Empire.

The carnival parade attracts 50,000 visitors on Monday, making it the largest public celebration in this North Rhine-Westphalia municipality.

The educational infrastructure includes six elementary schools, three secondary schools, one gymnasium, and eight libraries serving the population of 28,878 residents.

The remaining St. John's chapel from 1748 marks the location where a medieval castle stood until its dismantling in the early 1800s.
