Gütersloh, Administrative district in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
Gütersloh is a rural district in North Rhine-Westphalia within the Detmold Government Region. It lies between the Teutoburg Forest to the south and the Westphalian Basin to the north, covering thirteen towns and municipalities.
The district formed in 1973 through the merger of the former Halle and Wiedenbrück districts during municipal reform. This reorganization brought together areas with different territorial pasts under a single administration.
The region contains theaters, concert venues, and art exhibition spaces, with regular performances taking place throughout the municipalities within the district.
The district administration coordinates public services such as schools, healthcare facilities, and waste management across all municipalities. Visitors planning administrative tasks will find offices distributed throughout the larger towns.
The coat of arms displays a golden eagle from Rietberg, a wheel from Osnabrück, and chevrons from Ravensberg. These symbols recall the different historical territories now administered together.
