Kosmos, Movie theater and entertainment centre in Friedrichshain, Germany.
Kosmos is a modern cinema and cultural center with three floors located in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. The facade displays yellow brick walls on one side and painted concrete surfaces on the other, with rounded stairwell openings and vertical window patterns.
Architect Josef Kaiser designed the building, which was constructed in 1934 as a guesthouse. A northern extension with a dining hall was added in 1936, establishing its current layout.
The venue functions as a gathering place where visitors experience film screenings alongside art exhibitions and cultural events. It serves the neighborhood as a space for shared experiences centered on cinema and contemporary culture.
The building features several screening rooms equipped with modern sound systems and comfortable seating. A snack area is available for visitors, and the spaces are easily accessible for both individual and group visits.
The stairwell windows display a distinctive geometric pattern that marks the sharp boundary between the building's two contrasting exterior materials. This feature is often overlooked but remains one of the building's most characteristic design elements.
