Liebig 34, Anarchist collective building in Friedrichshain, Berlin, Germany
Liebig 34 is a four-story corner building on Liebigstrasse in Friedrichshain featuring dark-painted facades and multiple window openings. The ground floor housed an information center and gathering space called L34-Bar, while upper floors provided residential space for approximately 35 residents.
Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, activists occupied the vacant structure and transformed it into a space for alternative living. The building remained under this form of occupation until 2020, when it was ultimately cleared.
The building served as a meeting place for feminist groups who regularly organized discussions and workshops on gender equality and social issues. The spaces functioned as a gathering point and community hub for people sharing similar values.
The building sits at a street corner that is easily accessible on foot with good visibility from the road. Visitors should note that access today may be limited, as the structure is in a transitional state following its clearance.
The 2020 clearance was noteworthy for its use of specialized climbing equipment to access barricaded sections of the building. This action marked the end of three decades of autonomous communal living in the heart of Friedrichshain.
