Alteburg, Mountain summit in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany
Alteburg is a mountain summit in Rhineland-Palatinate with an elevation of 630 meters located in the Naturpark Soonwald-Nahe region. An observation tower sits atop the peak, providing access to viewing platforms for visitors.
The observation tower was built in 1893 by the Soonwald Club and has remained on the summit since its construction. This structure marks an important moment in the region's early tourism development.
The mountain forms part of the European long-distance path E3, connecting numerous peaks across multiple countries through an extensive hiking network.
The tower can be reached by climbing a spiral staircase with 67 steps that lead to the observation platform. The platform remains open to visitors and provides views across the surrounding landscape.
From its position as the sixth highest peak in Landkreis Bad Kreuznach, Alteburg offers views toward Ellerspring and Simmerkopf mountains.
