Alte Malzfabrik, Industrial heritage building in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany.
Alte Malzfabrik is an industrial building in Mülheim an der Ruhr that sits along the railway line between Mülheim and Essen. The structure displays typical late 19th-century industrial architecture with solid red brick facades and carefully designed windows throughout.
The facility was founded in 1898 by Kufferath and Schels to produce malt coffee and roasted grain. It suffered severe bombing damage in 1943 but survived, eventually closing production in 1991.
The name reflects its original purpose in malt production for local industry. Today visitors can see how the red brick design represents the craftsmanship and industrial heritage of the Ruhr region.
The building sits at Hingbergstrasse 103 and is easily visible from the street side. The restored facade with its brickwork and renewed windows still displays the craftsmanship of the original builders.
The building stands as the last surviving inner-city factory in Mülheim, documenting an era when factories shaped the town's character. Few visitors realize that the surrounding area once had dozens of similar industrial plants nearby.
