Maifeld

Maifeld is an open lawn space with fixed stands on its western side accommodating around 44,000 spectators. The bell tower with its observation platform overlooks the grounds and is illuminated by searchlights for evening events.

The grounds were built in 1936 for polo and dressage competitions during the Olympic Games under architect Werner March's plans. After World War II, British forces took over the space for military celebrations and introduced cricket matches.

The space hosts open-air concerts and large gatherings today, making it a meeting point for the entire city. The setting with views toward the bell tower creates a special quality for shared experiences.

When visiting, allow time to explore both the open field and the bell tower's observation platform. The location sits near the Olympic Stadium and is easily accessible by public transport.

Beneath the stands lies the Langemark-Halle, a memorial room with flags and shields honoring participants from a major battle in the early 1900s. This hidden space preserves an important historical memory often missed by visitors.
