Mainz Central Station
Mainz Central Station, Railway station in Mainz, Germany
The central station features a bright Flonheim sandstone entrance building designed in Italian neo-Renaissance style, measuring three hundred meters in length and forty-seven meters in width.
The station, designed by architect Philipp Johann Berdellé, opened in 1884 as part of the city expansion following the Franco-Prussian War and replaced an older station near the Rhine.
The railway complex maintains its original nineteenth-century architectural elements while incorporating modern facilities, representing a protected monument of German transportation heritage.
The station processes approximately 60,000 travelers daily, offering connections to major German cities through regional and long-distance trains, with service staff available from 6 AM to 11 PM.
Upon its inauguration, the station hall contained the longest continuous platform roof structure in Europe, constructed using a combination of cast iron, wrought iron, and glass materials.
