Badener Höhe, Mountain summit in Baden-Baden, Germany
Badener Höhe is the highest peak in the Baden-Baden region of the Black Forest, standing at around 1,000 meters elevation. A 30-meter observation tower and a mountain hut at the summit provide shelter and rest stops for hikers.
The Friedrichsturm observation tower was built from red sandstone in 1890 and named during its inauguration by Grand Duke Frederick I of Baden in 1891. Following closure in 2002 due to safety issues, it was fully restored through public donations in 2003.
The mountain serves as a popular stopping point for hikers on the long-distance E1 trail connecting different regions across Europe. Visitors often pause here to enjoy the views and use the well-maintained network of surrounding paths.
The observation tower is accessible to visitors and offers panoramic views across the entire region from above. The mountain hut near the summit is an ideal spot to rest, especially important after longer hikes.
The red sandstone structure faced collapse in 2002 until local donors stepped in to save it from ruin. This restoration shows how much the tower matters to people in the region.
