Beerfurther Schloesschen, Medieval castle ruin in Beerfurth, Germany

The Beerfurther Schloesschen stands on a wooded mountain ridge at 358 meters elevation and consists of surviving wall sections and tower structures built from sandstone blocks. The site shows visible remains of the medieval ring wall and defensive structures.

The castle was built between the 11th and 12th centuries and was first mentioned in documents in 1540. Archaeological investigations by Eduard Anthes in 1887 helped document the site's history.

The ruins display features of medieval construction through surviving sandstone blocks arranged in multiple layers along sections of the ring wall. Visitors can directly observe these building techniques in the remaining masonry.

The site is easily reached by car and has parking facilities nearby. Regular guided tours are available to provide visitors with helpful information about the ruins.

During archaeological excavations, charcoal fragments were discovered inside the tower, indicating a significant fire event in the building's past. These findings shed light on how the structure may have been destroyed.
