Kapelle Althof, Brick Gothic chapel in Althof, Germany.

Kapelle Althof is a brick structure in Brick Gothic style, distinguished by a cross-ribbed vault with two bays on the eastern section and an octagonal choir at its end. The building displays typical features of regional brick construction with intricate vaulting patterns.

The chapel was founded in 1171 when twelve Cistercian monks from Amelungsborn Monastery established a religious settlement under Abbot Conrad's guidance. This founding marked the start of its long history as a spiritual center in the region.

The name comes from the old estate that once occupied this site before it became a religious center. Visitors can still trace how the space evolved from a secular to a sacred purpose through its layout and design.

The building is accessible from outside and offers views of its distinctive brick architecture and the notable octagonal choir. Visitors should note that interior access may be limited depending on ongoing conservation needs.

A sacrificial stone in front of the chapel marks a Slavic uprising in 1179 and connects the building to a pivotal moment of local resistance against foreign rule. This stone offers insight into conflicts that shaped the region's early history.
