Naval Academy at Mürwik

The Naval Academy at Mürwik features red brick architecture with gothic elements spread across multiple buildings along the Flensburg waterfront.

Constructed in 1910 under Kaiser Wilhelm II's order, the academy replaced the German Imperial Naval Academy in Kiel as the primary officer training facility.

The academy maintains German naval traditions through ceremonies, educational programs, and maritime customs that shape the professional development of naval officers.

Students complete a thirteen-year service commitment, including basic training, university studies at the Federal Armed Forces University, and specialized maritime courses.

The academy served as Germany's temporary capital for twenty days in 1945 when Grand Admiral Karl Dönitz established the last German government there.
