Burg Windeck, Medieval castle in Heidesheim, Germany
The fortified structure features a rectangular defensive tower and Gothic residential buildings surrounded by remnants of a water-filled moat system.
Knight Herdegen zu Winternheim constructed the castle in 1209, which served as residence for the Lords of Winterau until the late 14th century.
The castle now functions as a community center with a wedding room, reflecting the transformation from military stronghold to social gathering place.
The municipality of Heidesheim acquired the castle in 1993 and initiated extensive renovations to preserve the historical structure for future generations.
The castle's location at the northern edge of the village influenced its name Windeck, derived from Wintereck due to its exposed position.
