Burg Ravenstein is a medieval castle that sits above the Ailsbach valley on a high plateau overlooking the surrounding landscape. Stone walls and defensive structures from different construction periods give the fortress its layered appearance and reveal how it developed over time.
The castle was founded in 1090 and served as a strategic fortification point for monitoring surrounding territories and controlling regional trade. Over the centuries it was rebuilt and expanded multiple times to meet changing military and economic needs.

Visitors reach the castle through marked paths from the parking area, with guided tours offered during regular opening hours from March to October. Sturdy footwear is recommended since paths are steep and walking surfaces can be uneven.
Below the castle walls lie several underground passages and chambers that were originally used for storing supplies and providing shelter during conflicts. Some of these hidden spaces remain visible today and reveal the sophisticated defensive design of the structure.
