DZ Bank building, Postmodern office building at Pariser Platz, Berlin, Germany
The DZ Bank building is a postmodern office and residential structure located at Pariser Platz in Berlin-Mitte. It combines workspace and living units while featuring a central glass-roofed courtyard that brings natural light throughout the interior.
The structure was built between 1998 and 2000, replacing an earlier bank building on the site. Its completion coincided with Berlin's major urban redevelopment following the country's reunification.
The name comes from the German cooperative banking institution that commissioned this structure. Its light stone exterior creates a calm presence at the square, standing as a modern neighbor to the nearby Brandenburg Gate.
The interior can be partially viewed by visiting public areas such as the cafeteria or central courtyard. Daytime visits on weekdays offer the best experience, when the building pulses with activity.
Floating within the central courtyard is a sculptural conference hall crafted from stainless steel and wood. Visitors can view this striking creation from below through the glass floor of the cafeteria level.
