Drachenberg, Summit in Grunewald, Germany.
Drachenberg is an artificial elevation in Berlin-Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf that rises about 99 meters above the surrounding area. The site offers unobstructed views across much of the district and neighboring parts of the city.
After World War II, the elevation was constructed from debris of rebuilt structures that had accumulated across the city. This transformation reflects how Berlin dealt with its reconstruction after wartime destruction.
The slopes draw locals who gather here on warm evenings to walk and spend time together with views across the city. People come to experience the open spaces and enjoy the elevated vantage point away from the streets below.
A staircase with about 280 steps leads to the summit, though alternative routes also exist for the ascent. A parking area at the base near Teufelsseechaussee makes visiting straightforward.
The name comes from the many kites and paragliders that regularly launch from the slopes. This aerial activity gave the location its distinctive name.
