Kloster Höningen, Medieval monastery ruins in Altleiningen, Germany
The remaining structures of Kloster Höningen include a Romanesque main gate and walls that define the village landscape of Höningen.
Graf Emich II and his wife Albarat founded the Augustinian monastery between 1119 and 1124, which operated until its destruction by fire in 1569.
The monastery church, consecrated in 1141, honored Saints Peter, Paul, and Verena, representing the religious heritage of the Rhineland-Palatinate region.
Visitors can access the monastery ruins at Höninger Hauptstraße 27 in Altleiningen and explore the site through an audiovisual tour route.
After the monastery's dissolution, Count Philipp I established the Latin School in 1573, which later evolved into the current Leininger Gymnasium in Grünstadt.
