F. W. Borchardt, Historical restaurant building in Berlin, Germany
The F. W. Borchardt building features red sandstone facade elements with Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque architectural details on Französische Straße 47.
Established in 1853 as a delicatessen and wine wholesale business, the current building was constructed in 1900 by architect Carl Gause.
The restaurant served imperial courts, nobility, and Berlin society, developing international cuisine traditions that influenced the German capital's dining landscape.
The building survived World War II with minimal damage and underwent complete restoration before reopening as a restaurant in 1992.
Between 1949 and 1990, the establishment operated under state ownership as 'Lukullus,' specializing in fish dishes during the German Democratic Republic period.
