Michelsburg, Medieval castle ruin in Haschbach am Remigiusberg, Germany.
Michelsburg is a castle ruin in Haschbach am Remigiusberg with stone walls standing next to a Benedictine monastery. The preserved structures include a shield wall about 20 meters high and other remnants of fortification systems.
The castle was built around 1260 and later changed hands between the Counts of Veldenz and the Palatinate-Veldenz principality. It was eventually destroyed, leaving only the ruins visible today.
The ruins display typical medieval building methods from the Rhineland-Palatinate region that remain visible in the stone walls today. Visitors can observe these construction techniques directly while walking through the site.
You can visit the ruins through marked paths, with a restaurant in the neighboring monastery area for refreshments. The marked routes make navigation straightforward and easy to follow.
The Michaelsberg hill had a wooden fortification as far back as 1124 before the castle was built. From the ruins you can look out across the surrounding Palatinate landscape.
