Remigiusberg

Remigiusberg is a summit with medieval castle ruins in the Palatinate region that rises around 368 meters above sea level. The site is defined by sandstone formations and the remains of a Benedictine abbey situated alongside a priory church.

An 11th century castle originally occupied this hilltop before being replaced in 1127 by a Benedictine abbey. The new foundation maintained connections to the Abbey of Saint-Remi in Reims and took its name from Saint Remigius.

The priory church dedicated to Saint Remigius displays medieval religious architecture that visitors can observe today. This sacred site reflects the spiritual role the place held for monks and pilgrims centuries ago.

The site is accessible via Kreisstraße 69 from the north, connecting with Kreisstraße 21 between Haschbach and Rammelsbach villages. The surrounding sandstone landscape makes for straightforward walking and exploration across the terrain.

Two quarries near the summit contain rare minerals including Anatase, Azurite, Baryte, and Calcite. These geological finds reveal the distinctive mineral composition of the sandstone formations at this location.
