Abbaye Saint-Maurice de Magdebourg, Benedictine monastery in Magdeburg, Germany.
The monastery complex included multiple buildings arranged around a cloister, with the southern wing dating from 1160 still standing within the current cathedral.
Emperor Otto I established the monastery in 937, selecting it as a burial site for royal family members and housing precious Italian artworks.
The monastery housed Benedictine monks from Trier until 963, when they relocated to establish the new Saint John the Baptist Abbey of Berge.
The monastery site now lies beneath Magdeburg Cathedral, with archaeological excavations from 1926 revealing foundation remains near the choir area.
The original structure contained the tomb of Edith of England, Otto I's first wife, marked by a 16th-century cenotaph that remains in the cathedral.
