Fürstenwall

Fürstenwall is a park in Magdeburg's Old Town that stretches as a wide promenade with tree-lined paths and green spaces. It offers views across to the Elbe River and Rotehorn Park, with walkways passing through planted areas.

The site was created in the 1720s when a local ruler transformed the city's old defensive ramparts into a leisure area. This change marked a shift from military to civilian use of the former defense system.

The park holds monuments that honor important moments in the city's history, including a war memorial and a bust commemorating the founder of German gymnastics. These memorials are scattered throughout the grounds and invite visitors to learn about the region's past through these tributes.

The grounds are easy to explore on foot since the paths are level and continuous throughout. Visitors will find several entry points around the site and can easily reach nearby attractions from here.

At one corner of the park stands Bastion Cleve, a preserved stone structure with medieval roots that once stored military supplies. The building was later repurposed as a wine cellar, making it an unusual reminder of how spaces transform over time.
